The gamelands offer adventurous hikers a wilderness experience as the area has no official trail maps and minimal signage. There are multiple waterfalls and beautiful creeks and views. If hiking this area on your own please bring maps and experience in reading them.
Please be fully aware of state and local hunting seasons and rules. It is highly recommended to wear blaze orange anytime hiking in gamelands.
There two main access areas as well several other roadside access areas. The two main access areas are:
Roper Hollow Rd - east of US 64 (Google Map of parking area)
Old CC Road - Golden Valley (Google Map of parking area)
From the Roper Hollow Rd parking area, there is 12-miles of a gravel road, open to hiking, biking and horse riding. The road serves mostly as the border between the gamelands and South Mountain State Park lands. At the end of the 12 miles, it connects to trails in South Mountains State Park. You can view that trail on the GPS the Trail link above.
WHERE: Bostic, NC
DIRECTIONS: Mostly in northeast Rutherford County, the Golden Valley area.
Keep your maps in a plastic bag to protect them from the rain and know how to use them. GPS units are great, but they are not substitutes for knowing how to use a map and compass.
