Great trail to explore the boulders and rock faces at the base of Rumbling Bald Mountain. The trail is wide with a mostly gravel surface. Trail was recently upgraded and re-routed in places.

This is an extremely popular area for rock climbing. The parking lot is usually full on every nice weekend between October and April. The parking lot will be expanded in early 2019 thanks to a state bond issue the voters of NC passed. The amount of parking will triple in size.

This new trail was constructed by staff of Chimney Rock State Park and the volunteer efforts of the Carolina Mountain Club, Carolina Climbers Coalition, and the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park.

WHERE: 827 Boys Camp Rd., Lake Lure, NC 28746

DIRECTIONS: The parking area for this trail is located off Boys Camp Road between Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.

TIPS & TRICKS

Bring a Map

Keep your maps in a plastic bag to protect them from the rain and know how to use them. GPS units are great, but they are not substitutes for knowing how to use a map and compass.
