Whether you are a first-time camper or an experienced backpacker, the mountains of NC will lend you the ultimate camping experience. There is nothing quite like spending an evening away from home in the great outdoors. Set up camp near a gorgeous waterfall or a convenient place where you and family can pitch a tent as the parks offer family camping, group camping, tent and RV sites, and much more.
North Carolina State Parks offer many camping options from traditional tent camping to RV campgrounds. Many of these tent and RV campgrounds also offer access to restrooms, hot shower facilities, water and electric hook-ups, a picnic table and holding tank dumping stations. Campsite fees, visitation fees and seasonal restrictions vary from site to site. In some cases, campsites can be reserved in advance.
Keep your maps in a plastic bag to protect them from the rain and know how to use them. GPS units are great, but they are not substitutes for knowing how to use a map and compass.
